Selecting the Right Surgeon

How to Choose a Cataract Surgeon

Eye health is a serious issue, so when deciding on a major eye surgery, it’s important for you to trust and feel comfortable with the surgeon you select. Your primary care physician or eye care professional should be able to start you off with some recommendations. Then you can narrow down the field of candidates by comparing some of these factors:

  • Experience

Find out how long the doctor has been performing eye surgeries, specifically the one you are interested in having done.
  • Testimonials

Try to seek out firsthand stories from former patients of the surgeon you’re interested in. They are sometimes available on the surgeon’s website, or you may be able to find a third-party website with more candid reviews.
  • Attitude

During your preliminary visit, consider the general attitude of the surgeon and staff when interacting with them. If you don’t feel comfortable, keep looking.
